Peppercorn hair:

The most extreme curvature in human hair is known as peppercorn hair. The extremely tightly curled hairs tend to roll themselves up in balls or knots, which resemble peppercorns attached to the scalp. It may be an adapation to tropical heat, since the open spaces between the hair clusters allow sweat from the scalp to evaporate. Hair length usually never exceeds more than a few centimetres. In its greatest markedness, peppercorn hair appears in South African Khoisanids, less frequently it is present among African Pygmies and Andamanese Negritos as well. Sometimes it alternates on the head with kinky hair.
